Wigan racer Tony Lynch prepares for new season in Super Retro class of the Retro Rallycross Championship with Landsail Tyres as title sponsor

April has been a busy month for Landsail partner and Team Geriatric racer, Tony Lynch, who has announced he will be stepping up to the Super Retro class of the Retro Rallycross Championship for the 2024 season.

Tony has won the Retro class for the past two seasons at the wheel of his Team Geriatric-run Toyota MR2, adding two Retro titles to his already impressive list of career honours.

The move up into the Super Retro class has been made possible thanks to the ongoing support of Lynch’s partners, including Landsail Tyres. Here at Landsail, we are thrilled to once again be Tony’s title sponsor, with the Landsail branding prominently feating on the livery.

Despite deciding to move up into the top class of the Retro Rallycross Championship, Tony will continue to compete at the wheel of the Toyota – which the team has developed with great success in recent years after it was previously used for stage rallying in Scotland.

Development work alongside MAS Tuning is ongoing on an all-new two-litre turbo engine that will be fitted to the MR2 to increase performance, with a new gearbox and upgraded suspension also being incorporated to deal with the additional power and weight.

As the weeks count down to his first Super Retro race in May, Lynch is focussing all efforts on being as prepared as possible for the leap, adding: “Even though we will be competing in a higher class for the first time, I don’t just want to make up the numbers. I’m confident that by the end of the season, we can be right in the mix at the front of the Super Retro field and put ourselves in a good position ahead of 2025.”

Over the season, there will be 7 rounds in total across 4 Championship events:

  • Round ½ – Lydden Hill 30th March/1st April
  • Round ¾ – Mondello Park – 25/26th May
  • Round ⅚ – Pembrey 5/6th October
  • Round 7 – Lydden Hill – 2/3rd November
