Wigan Warriors take the Super League trophy
26th October 2023It was a highly anticipated Grand Final for Wigan Warriors after a hugely successful Super League season, and it didn’t disappoint for Wigan fans as the team took the victory for the sixth time.
Over 58,000 people were in attendance at Old Trafford, creating an electric atmosphere that spurred the team on in what was a tense final game.
The first half was very closely matched between the Warriors and the Catalans Dragons, with Wigan scoring the first points from a penalty taken by Harry Smith. Just before half-time, this was equalised by Catalans player Keighran following another penalty kick, leaving the score at halftime a nail-biting 2-2.
Opening the second half, Wigan appeared to have more tempo, with the Catalans also a player down due to a yellow card for Tom Davies. Wigan capitalised on this with Liam Marshall scoring the only try of the game, which was converted by Harry Smith.
Another penalty kick late on by Harry Smith helped make the score 10-2, which would be the final score. Although the Catalans tried to fight back the Wigan defence held strong until the end.
Huge congratulations to the team!
