Make the change to summer tyres
27th April 2025
Spring has arrived, which brings a change in temperature and road conditions, making it the ideal time to swap out your winter tyres for summer tyres.
If this isn’t something you have considered doing before, read on for our handy FAQs.
Is it a problem to drive on my winter tyres in summer?
It’s not advisable to drive on winter tyres during summer. Winter tyres are designed with a softer tread which provides better traction on slippery road surfaces. Applying this tread to warm, dry roads will quickly wear the tyre down, and it makes them less responsive, causing a danger to road users.
When do I need to change my tyres over?
When the temperature consistently sits above 7 degrees.
I’ve had my summer tyres in storage, are they safe to drive on?
It’s always best to get your tyres checked by a professional after being in storage. Tyres that haven’t been stored properly can have a reduced life and may need replacing.
Tyres should be stored in the following ways:
– Avoiding contact with chemicals
– In a dark room away from direct sunlight
– In an upright position, stacked on top of one another or hung up
– In a plastic bag large enough to fit the whole tyre inside, making sure no moisture or air can get in.
We have a wide range of summer tyres suitable for passenger cars, including LS188+, LS288, LS388 and LS588.
