Get to Know…Peter Winn Tyres Ltd

26th October 2023

This month, get to know Andrew from Peter Winn Tyres Ltd…

What services does your garage provide?

Car, van and 4×4 tyres, expert advice and impartial guidance in the 4×4 sector to provide off-highway solutions to 4×4 needs, alignment and batteries.

How would you describe your business in 3 words?

Family, reliability, value.

Tell us one interesting fact people may not know about you.

I’m a biologist by trade so I have a passion for nature and open spaces.

What does your customer base typically value the most from your business?

Our honest service.

What encouraged you to become a customer of Davanti?

Their passion to provide something different, to work with people who have a vision and standards and do something no one else was doing at the time to really provide a product that works for the customer on all levels.

What impact has being a Davanti dealer had on your business?

Being a Davanti dealer enabled the business to offer another product in what we call our ‘house brands’. I see the house brand as key to the success of the independent business in the car, van and 4×4 sector. Being able to work closely with the Davanti team enables us to experience growth in sales while still offering the end user a great value product with some of the latest tyre technology being exhibited in the range. In short, dealing with the Davanti team makes me smile.

Which Davanti products are most popular with your customers?

Customer awareness of patterns is very limited as their exposure to the tyre is based on our recommendations, so few are aware really of the range, which means they would rarely ask for a certain product. The beauty of being an independent business means we are just that; we can guide customers down the correct road in terms of their fitments. The biggest steer, if you like towards a product, would be Alltoura and Terratoura. These ranges are extremely competitive, and tyre performance in these categories is crucial because if they don’t work, we will definitely receive the feedback, so we only recommend products that we know and trust.

If you could offer one piece of advice to a fellow garage owner just starting out in the industry, what would it be?

Create your own direction, sell something no one else does, and create your own brand, in conjunction with another one that suits you and your business.
