Everton plays a historic game at Goodison Park’s final Derby.

26th February 2025

Davanti partners Everton delivered an electrifying performance in what will be remembered as a historic Merseyside Derby – the last ever to be hosted at Goodison Park before their move to the new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock next season. Passionate fans filled the stadium, with many treating the occasion as a farewell to an old friend, and the roars from both teams were described as deafening, a true reflection of the importance of the game to the city.

The Blues had a dream start to the game, taking the lead in the 11th minute through Beto, but this joy was short-lived – Liverpool equalised just five minutes later with a header from Alexis Mac Allister. While Everton dominated for large parts of the second half, with just 17 minutes left, Salah put Liverpool ahead 2-1 as the match approached its climax.

Everton remained undeterred, and in the 8th minute of extra time, Tarkowski equalised, prompting massive roars from the fans. The match ended 2-2 marking a historic moment, creating a memorable final derby experience for fans at Goodison Park.

The draw extends Everton’s solid form under returning manager David Moyes and an extra point that now positions Everton 10 points clear of the relegation zone.

Reflecting on the match, Tarkowski told the Liverpool ECHO:

“It was a special, special night. What a way to finish the last-ever derby here.”

“It might sound daft, but it doesn’t matter who scores, the point was important for us, considering where we are in the league and the way we’ve been playing. That will be a special moment for the rest of my career and probably the biggest moment for me really because to score like that is special.”
