Edd Cobley victorious in Welsh Borders Hill Rally despite hardest race yet
15th June 2022The Welsh Borders Hill Rally turned out to be one of the most challenging races to date for Edd Cobley, but thanks to the power of his Defender Skippy 2.0 and the reliability of Terratoura A/T, it resulted in success.
The nerves were building for Edd before the race even began – Skippy’s engine was destroyed just a day before the event, so it was all hands on deck for a fast engine rebuild to ensure it was ready to race.
Just 100m into the race at Stage 1, a broken boost pipe resulted in no power, causing Edd to fall behind to near last position. However, once he got back on course Edd managed to climb the rankings to 8th overall and 1st in class.
As the stages got bigger, Edd and Skippy continued to climb to victory, matching the speeds of the prototype racers with double the power and half the weight of Skippy.
Edd finished the weekend 1st in class, 1st in the Fastest Diesel, 1st in the Beam Axle Car and 6th overall.
Commenting on the challenging race, he said:
“Skippy was amazing and the tyres were next level throughout.
“We had a few moments overdriving and getting giddy on where we were placed, which nearly ended skippy forever, but with those tyres and a little bit of talent, we hung on to get an overall win in modified production.”
