As a 30-year veteran of the industry, Perry Adams knows tyres.
After serving his time as an employee, 17 years ago he made the leap to start his own business in Cinderford, Gloucestershire.
Now that business – Perry’s Tyres and Exhaust Services – serves customers across Gloucestershire, South Wales and the Cotswolds, offering full vehicle servicing and expert tyre advice.
“Tyres was the start for me,” he said. “That was my speciality when I started the business and it’s what still underpins everything.
“I’m Cinderford born and bred so when I decided to start my own business it was always going to be here, applying my knowledge and experience of tyres to make the best brand recommendations to customers.”
As Perry’s reputation for excellence grew, he expanded the business, recruiting new staff and adding additional services including brake inspections, wheel alignment, servicing and repairs.
Today, Perry’s employs six staff and has recently moved to new premises on Forest Vale Road in Cinderford. It is also an authorised Davanti Tyres dealer, offering a full range of products from the UHP Protoura Sport to the all-terrain Terratoura A/T.
“Davanti has been a fantastic brand to work with,” said Perry. “Its range of tyres is pretty comprehensive, and offers excellent performance at great value. Our customers have been really receptive to them as a British brand and I’m happy to recommend them.
“The brand has also been really supportive of the business. Getting through the pandemic was difficult, everyone took a hit at that time as trade dipped. Despite that we chose to press on with our move to a better location on Forest Vale Road.
“Davanti’s brand manager helped us ensure the site was well branded from the start so that customers feel welcome and comfortable when they visit with new, professional signage all over the site.”
Being so connected to the community, Perry has built a reputation for fundraising. Over the years he has embarked on a number of charity walks and challenges, including London to Brighton. Among the causes he’s raised money for are Motor Neurone Disease, Crohns and Colitis, Clic Sargent – tackling cancer in young people and helping to fund a defibrillator for Bo Peeps Nursery.
“I just want to do what I can to support important causes,” he said. “Some of these have affected my family personally, others are a response to a need in the community. I’m able to do something to help raise money and awareness that hopefully helps other people.”
