Adventure beckons for Ollie Ollerton as training for Ama Dablam continues

12th October 2022

As the days draw closer to the Ama Dablam climb, Ollie’s gruelling training regime continues.

From altitude chamber training to strength sessions and running, Ollie has undergone a mix of indoor and outdoor training over several months to ensure he builds strength as well as stamina ahead of the climb.

Commenting on his recent regime, Ollie said:

“Training wise, I have been sticking to cardiovascular. Although I’m still doing my weights and strength training, especially when it comes to my legs, I’m getting out and doing the cardio more than anything so every second day I’m out doing 7 or 8k runs.”

An important part of Ollie’s training programme is getting used to the altitude levels he will face. To help him adapt, Ollie has trained with the Manchester Metropolitan University in a controlled chamber environment which monitors his breathing levels and fitness as he mimics the mountain climb on a treadmill. You can check out how Ollie got on here.

It’s not just his fitness that Ollie needs to think about, a big aspect of his preparation is ensuring he has all the appropriate equipment to navigate and stay safe on the mountain.

Ollie said:

“I’m having to buy kit every day – you think you’ve got all the kit and then you realise you’ve not got anything. But then again, you’re not at 6,800 metres every day so it’s quite specialist.”

Ollie has partnered with Terratoura so that when adventure beckons, he can transition from off-road to the tarmac with ease.
