Zelos looks to the future after difficult 2022 season

18th October 2022

The finale of the Mini Challenge 2022 brought a difficult season to a close for Dan Zelos.

Brands Hatch was yet another challenging weekend for Zelos – a stark contrast to last year which saw him crowned champion.

Despite a promising start in free practice – going quickest of all through sector one – an extended red flag stoppage resulted in a disappointing 11th place ahead of race one.

Zelos managed to make up several places early on, but this was short-lived as overheating tyres left him without the traction or rotation, resulting in a 9th place finish.

Race two was a similar story due to an inability to attack, restricting him to 8th place.

The final race of the season was equally frustrating as Joe Tanner made contact from behind on the opening lap, pitching Zelos into the Paddock Hill Bend gravel trap.

Zelos said:

“It’s not been our year, but congratulations to Sam Weller for winning the championship – he drove a blinder and his name deserves to be on that trophy. We’ve not had much luck on our side, but that’s how motorsport goes sometimes.

“I want to thank my mechanic, Dan Cusick, and the whole team for working so hard and putting all of their blood, sweat and tears into trying to turn our bad luck around.

“We’re already evaluating our own next step – and it’s no secret that the BTCC is my ultimate aim. Whether we can get there next year or not, I don’t know, but I promise we’ll be doing everything possible over the coming weeks and months to maximise our chances. Watch this space…”
