Want to add smiles to your miles? Fit the right tyres for your vehicle

28th May 2025
Paul Cowland with the Envoy tyre range

As anyone who has tried to run in flip-flops, or paddle in brogues will tell you, your choice of footwear can hugely affect the enjoyment of your activity. And it really is no different for your car or van. The right ‘footwear’, or tyres, for your motor, will have a huge effect on how you’ll enjoy each passing mile, and more importantly, how safe you’ll feel while you’re doing so.

Luckily, the Envoy range has a tyre for almost every application and situation. Whether you’re working, cruising, exploring or really nailing those apexes on your favourite ‘B’ road, there’s a ‘boot to suit’ – and because I don’t want you to suffer the automotive equivalent of turning up to a board meeting in flippers, here’s my quick guide to finding the right ones.

Get A grip!

If you bought your last car based on its 0-60 time, how large the alloys were, or the frankly ridiculous amount of horsepower that it produced, you’re very much the kind of person I’d like to go for a drink with. You’re also definitely the kind of person that’s going to truly benefit from the leech-like grip of the Motiva UHP. This is a tyre aimed squarely at those that care about finding the best line through a corner, or seeing whether the performance figures quoted for their car really can be achieved – where safe to do so, of course.

This is an Ultra High Performance tyre that will make every spirited drive more rewarding and really bring your car to life. As most sporting machinery comes with frankly massive tyres, the range reflects that, starting from a sensible 17” size to a frankly gargantuan 275/40/22 (coming soon), that will satisfy even the most discerning of ‘press-on’ drivers.

But it’s not just about the frankly stunning case design and wide range of fitments, the real raison d’être of the Motiva range is to stick to the tarmac, and it does this rather well. In the dry, it offers huge reserves of grip and traction, but when it rains? Well, that’s when it plays its joker, my friends. This is an ‘A’ rated tyre in the wet, meaning there is no higher accolade at any price point.

And the best bit? Despite all of that grip and bite, these are quiet tyres, with very sensible decibel ratings for such sticky shoes. So when you’re not on the A686, wringing the best from your motor, you can enjoy your favourite podcast in peace…

So in summary, you’re getting a lot for your money with the Motiva UHP:

  • Great grip
  • Excellent noise ratings
  • A very generous size range
  • Dream handling and stability

It’s a no brainer!

Get to work!

For many hard-grafting drivers, their van is as much a mobile office, workshop or store-room as it is a mode of transport, so the Vertra is designed with a hard-wearing work-ethic in mind. Suitably reinforced for the rigours of the working day and the demand of light commercial vehicles, the Vertra’s ready if you want to stack your Transit to its payload limit.

Tyres for a commercial vehicle need to balance many duties. The weight is a given, so load her up! But they also need to offer great grip and driving characteristics, balanced with excellent wear rates and gas mileage to keep operating costs down, while offering superb grip for when it rains. Stopping a fully-laden Proace in a downpour, in the shortest possible distance? That’s very much the Vertra’s bag. And with an ‘A’ wet weather rating, you’ll struggle to find a tyre, at any price, that can do it better.

Size wise, there is a vast range covering all of the popular 15”, 16” and 17” sizes, so you’ll always have the right boots for work. Just make sure you’ve packed your own safety shoes if you’re on site!

Get higher

SUV’s have become a cultural motoring phenomenon. 2025 will see 400 million(!) on the roads globally, with everyone from Execs to parents loving their lofty looks, practical space and rugged style. But let’s be honest, how many of us ever really treat these off-roaders or ‘Soft Roaders’ as they’re supposed to be used? Axle deep in mud? I think we all know the answer to that one.

As most SUVs are bought for their style and safety, rather than their ability to traverse a muddy bog, the boffins at Envoy have created the Tordera H/T – a handsome looking tyre that’s built for the weights and loads of these hefty machines, but in a pattern and style that’s perfect for motorway cruising in quiet comfort. After all, that’s what H/T stands for, Highway Terrain.

Better yet, they’ve not forgotten all the SUV-styled vehicles either. All of the slightly smaller look-alikes that offer all of the style, only with two wheel-drive. The Tordera H/T comes in smaller sizes to give impeccable road manners with smooth, quiet running and superb wet weather performance. Seeing as these vehicles are generally the family troop transport, that’s VERY reassuring.

Get real

What if you just want to get to work? Driving a lovely, but normal car, that simply is your pride and joy? That’s exactly what the Aterna is for; offering exceptional value with high grip, great MPG for those looking to save at the pump, and of course, as you’ve learned with the Envoy range, simply unbeatable wet-weather grip with a class-topping ‘A’ rating.

This is the tyre for the kind of cars we ALL own. Fiestas, Volvos, Hyundais, Nissans. The very stuff that makes up the driveways, car-parks and dual carriageways of the UK. The kind of cars we all use to commute, drive to the gym or simply go on holiday.

Envoy has still taken time to make this a fun thing to drive on though, and it’s available in a huge range of sizes, including a rather swanky 19” that offers quiet motorway cruising, a tough, pothole-beating construction and the kind of looks that will make your Mini look like a magazine cover star – and all at a price that leaves you enough for your favourite drive-through coffee on your way to work.

Get to your Envoy dealer

Don’t worry if that’s all too much to remember, you can make life blissfully simple by visiting your local Envoy dealer. From the second you roll up, they’ll know exactly which tyre you need for your vehicle, and they’ll be able to fit and balance them for you, giving you years and miles of trouble-free motoring on some of the best rubber in the business. Safe travels!
