Edd Cobley reflects on last season and his racing career

After completing the final race weekend of the 2024 British Cross Country Championship (BXCC) back in October, the British off-road racing legend and Terratoura ambassador, Edd Cobley, has had a few weeks to reflect on a whirlwind of a year and his career as a whole.

In April, the 2024 BXCC kicked off in North Yorkshire, before taking a tour across the UK for five more thrilling off-road race events. Over the course of the season, Edd took his Land Rover Defender 110, which competes on Davanti’s Terratoura tyres, to some of the most challenging terrains, in some of the trickiest of weather.

The exceptional skills and consistent performance of Edd, his co-driver John Tomley, and the Davanti Terratoura A/T across the season cannot be underestimated – especially considering many of the field compete on modified tyres. After a competitive year, Edd finished 9th overall and earned three prestigious trophies:

  • First in Class – Modified Production
  • Fastest Diesel Vehicle
  • Fastest Live Axle Vehicle

After a top 10 finish and some impressive trophies to add to the cabinet, 2024 has been another successful year for the racer in the BXCC.

But, having competed for over a decade now, Edd has been reflecting on some of his racing highs and lows over the last couple of weeks.

It goes without saying, Edd’s Defender, also known as ‘Skippy 2.0’, is one of his prize possessions. Having spent time modifying Skippy 2.0 over the years, fixing it with the best quality racing products from around the world and Davanti’s award-winning off-road tyres, when Skippy 2.0 and Edd won the British Cross Country Championship class title in 2021, he was thrilled.

Naturally, the long-standing partnership with Davanti Tyres is something Edd values across the whole of his racing and rally career – the support and performance of the tyres have been a crucial part of his racing success.

Luckily for Edd, he hasn’t had many racing lows, but he recalls very clearly a crash from 10 years ago. In 2014, Edd and his co-driver, John Tomley, took part in the Bowler Defender Challenge and with two race weekends left, they were due to win the championship. However, racing is racing, and after taking a right hand bend a little too quickly, the car tipped and their chances of winning two weekends early were shattered in seconds.

Despite the ups and downs that come with racing, Edd is already focussing on 2025 and we are eager to support him throughout his journey.
