DX440 keeps EV vans moving

21st March 2023

The electric commercial vehicle market has seen huge growth globally in recent years and this is showing no signs of slowing down.

Business and commercial fleets are currently under financial strain as a result of the economic challenges, and the current implementation of new clean air or low emission zones UK wide. Already operational in eight cities including London, which is going a step further, establishing ultra low emission zones which are set to be rolled out London-wide later this year.

With these crippling costs now a reality for many, fleets are increasingly investing in commercial electric vehicles for optimum efficiency.

In 2020, London Electric Vehicle Company launched the first, British made electric van and selected the Davanti DX440 as its original equipment (OE) tyre for the VN5 electric van.

When embarking on the selection process for an OE tyre brand, LEVC outlined a rigorous testing process to ensure the performance capabilities of their first electric van would be supported by tyres of equal quality and reliability. Comfort and longevity were a particular focus – often a challenge for tyre manufacturers when developing products for electric vans due to the weight distribution and torque.

The DX440 was tested against a number of other competitor brands at the UK’s leading proving ground, Horiba MIRA.

Commenting on electric vans, Sean Maddocks, Davanti sales director for the UK & Ireland, said:

“They carry extra weight distributed in a very different way to a traditional van due to the battery. They deliver more torque than a regular van, which poses its own challenges for tyres and the steering angles are tighter.”

The DX440 went through 8 different testing disciplines including dry and wet braking, dry and wet handling, longitudinal aquaplaning, dry stability, dry steering and wet circling.

Each discipline ensures the DX440 exceeds the normal driving requirements of a tyre for maximum safety, durability and reliability.

This stringent testing and continuous refinement of this and other products in the Davanti range earned the DX440 its place on all VN5 electric vans that LEVC produces.
