Dan Zelo’s nail-biting weekend at the penultimate race weekend of the season.

7th October 2025

Envoy Partner Dan Zelos had a weekend of racing with fine margins at the home of British Motorsport, Silverstone, during the Porsche Sprint Challenge. While he ended up being a hair’s breadth from his first trophy, it still turned out to be his most impressive and nail-biting performance of the season to date!

The first race of the weekend was on a wet track, which had Zelos make the right decision at the time, climbing three positions to reach 8th during the very first lap. Unfortunately, a vehicle going off the track caused a red flag. The significant delay had the track dry up, placing Zelos at a massive disadvantage with rivals racing on slick tyres.

Zelos still fought, finishing only a few places down at 12th, making no further progress due to the ill-timed red flag that worked against him, and now unsuitable tyres for the conditions early on.

In Race Two, the track was dry and stable. Starting from 9th place, Dan had a successful start, taking advantage of the mistakes of other drivers to move up the order. By the third lap, he had managed to reach 5th place and was focused on the podium position. Unfortunately, the race was cut short due to a red flag from an accident elsewhere. Dan was classified as 5th, which left him and his team thinking about what could have been.

Race Three took place in continued dry conditions and was broadcast live in front of ITV4 cameras. Early in the race, Dan moved into fourth place by overtaking his teammate and then began a sustained battle with championship contender Joe Marshall for third place. After a safety car deployment bunched the field up, the final laps saw a tense battle for the podium. While pressuring Marshall for third, Zelos also had to defend from the drivers behind him. He wasn’t able to find his way past before the end of the race, finishing only 0.271 seconds away from a podium position and just over a second behind the race winner.

“We established a decent gap to the drivers behind within the first few laps, but the safety car closed the field right back up, and in the closing stages, I had to combine attacking with defending. Still, to run consistently in the lead battle on merit and finish so close to the winner in fourth felt fantastic. It was unquestionably my best race in the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB so far, and that has given me a lot of confidence to take forward.”

“It’s been a massive whirlwind to switch to rear-wheel drive after nine years in front-wheel drive machinery.”

“It’s felt at times like I’m trying to learn to ride a bike backwards – it really is that different – and it’s no secret that it’s been a bigger challenge than I’d anticipated.”
