Consistency key for Zelos in Donington Park battle

26th January 2021

Donington Park was the virtual venue for round two of the Mini Challenge eSeries featuring Davanti eSports driver Dan Zelos.

Fresh off his eSeries debut the previous week, the Davanti Tyres-backed Dereham ace had a good feel for the differing racing style of the digital championship compared to the real-world Mini Challenge.

While the style may be different however, some things remain the same. Zelos’ customary consistency behind the wheel ensured he bagged two top 10 finishes to maintain a strong haul of points, placing himself fifth in the ‘real-world’ driver standings and just one good weekend off second place with Oulton Park up next.

“Donington Park saw a lot of racers getting more aggressive,” he said. ‘There were a lot of impacts towards the top of the field and it took a few aggressive moves to really gain places.

“But while crashes don’t have the same effect as they would on a real race weekend, they do still impact your ability to place. I’ve tried not to change my driving style too much trying to keep it smooth, attack at the right times and to not get involved in excessive contact.

“Staying out of trouble and scoring well in each race means giving yourself a realistic chance at honours towards the end of the season. Only 10 points separate fifth from 10th and with 12 races left over six rounds and there’s still plenty to play for.”

Cheshire’s picturesque Oulton Park is the next destination for the Mini Challenge eSeries. Live-streams start at 9.45am on Saturday, January 30 with full commentary on the Mini Challenge UK Facebook and Youtube channels. Post-race highlights will be available on Amazon Prime.
