How does Davanti test tyres to their extremes?

27th January 2025

Davanti is known for leading the way, especially within its research and development. This includes pushing its winter range in arctic extremes to ensure all products meet the brand’s rigorous standards.

In Finland, at the Ivalo facility 300km inside the Arctic Circle, is where Davanti conducts all its winter testing. This leading test centre boasts innovative technology, onsite offices to allow engineers to analyse results in real time and heated workshops to help the team cope with freezing temperatures.  Separately they also use a refrigerated store for the tyres to ensure they are kept at the outside ambient temperature for the most accurate testing.

Even when it does get slightly warmer in the Arctic, the facility has a unique indoor track where tyres can be tested to the limits all year round on fresh snow at around -11°C.

Using the various tracks at the centre, Davanti can benchmark the performance of all its winter tyres and ensure that all the products, such as the Wintoura+, continue to lead the way in winter conditions.

Looking at the Wintoura+ in more detail, to optimise the safety, performance and drive of the UHP winter tyre, its design features include:

  • Three-dimensional sipes and lateral grooves are specially designed to deliver increased traction and excellent braking.
  • Solid-joined outer blocks provide efficient water dispersion and precise steering response.
  • A high-performance carcass construction provides pinpoint handling characteristics along with a comfortable ride.

Additionally, the strong outer shoulder area means that although this compound is specifically designed for cold winter conditions, the tyre will still provide excellent performance in the summer and in the transition between seasons.
