Silvia Franchini wins first in class in Rome

Silvia Franchini and Nicoletta Deidda were triumphant in the latest round of the FIA European Rally Championship, the Rally di Roma Capitale.

Beginning at the Colosseum in the centre of Rome, the competition consisted of a series of challenging stages, but that didn’t deter Silvia, Nicola or “Bomberina”, the Mini Cooper S.

Silvia said:

“We’ve been dreaming of taking part in this extraordinary race for a while, both for the charm of the Eternal City and the desire to compete with the big names.

“We immediately understood that it would be a difficult race, with very fast and thrilling special stages. From the first special stage, Guarcino, we achieved an excellent time, which gave us the confidence for the following stage, Rocca di Cave. A large section of this is uphill, we counted 19 hairpin bends and “Bomberina’s” power steering was acting up so we were definitely challenged, but we managed to round off this stage too.

“The tests got very dirty and the heat made the asphalt hot, not to mention the position of the afternoon sun obstructed our view, but we didn’t give up.

“We ended the competition first in class, first in women and seventeenth overall. The award ceremony framed by the magnificent square of Fiuggi was the icing on the cake, making all the sacrifices we made to be here and to get to the end worthwhile.”

Silvia Franchini vince come prima della classe a Roma

Silvia Franchini e Nicoletta Deidda hanno trionfato nell’ultima prova del FIA European Rally Championship, il Rally di Roma Capitale.

Iniziata al Colosseo nel centro di Roma, la competizione si è articolata in una serie di tappe impegnative, ma questo non ha scoraggiato Silvia, Nicoletta o “Bomberina”, la Mini Cooper S.

Silvia ha detto:

“Da tempo sognavamo di prendere parte a questa straordinaria gara, sia per il fascino della Città Eterna che per la voglia di misurarci con i big.

“Abbiamo capito subito che sarebbe stata una gara difficile, con prove speciali molto veloci ed emozionanti. Nella prima prova speciale, Guarcino, abbiamo ottenuto un ottimo tempo, che ci ha dato fiducia per la tappa successiva, Rocca di Cave. Gran parte di questa è in salita, abbiamo contato 19 tornanti e il servosterzo di “Bomberina” faceva i capricci quindi eravamo decisamente in difficoltà, ma siamo riusciti a chiudere anche questa tappa.

“Le prove si sono sporcate molto ed il caldo ha reso l’asfalto rovente, per non parlare della posizione del sole pomeridiano che ci ha ostruito la visuale, ma non ci siamo arrese.

“Abbiamo concluso la competizione come prime di classe, prime tra le donne e diciassettesime nell’assoluta. La cerimonia di premiazione incorniciata dalla magnifica piazza di Fiuggi è stata la ciliegina sulla torta, ripagando di tutti i sacrifici che abbiamo fatto per essere qui e per arrivare alla fine”.
