Protoura Race is now available

31st March 2025

Introducing our first-ever track tyre for the Davanti range, the Protoura Race.

Engineered to win, Protoura Race has been designed to provide unbeatable performance on the track – and this year it will even be pushed to its limits across a range of motorsport activities.

Key features of Protoura Race

Its semi-slick tread design provides a combination of excellent dry grip and control in the wet without compromising speed, making it a successful formula to outpace the ordinary. Key features of our first-ever track tyre which provides drivers with the power and handling to achieve podium results, include:

  • Directional tread pattern to provide superior control in wet weather conditions.
  • Enhanced carcass strength to provide direct feedback to the driver and control under high cornering forces experienced on race tracks.
  • New compound with added grip for greater braking and acceleration power.
  • Semi-slick tread design allows the tyre to be driven from the track to the road.

Although predominantly designed for the track, Protoura Race also has road legal status, making journeying to and from the track easy.

Testing & Development

Protoura Race was developed in some of the most demanding, controlled testing scenarios to ensure the tyre was capable of delivering the pace and agility needed.

Applus+ IDIADA

One of Europe’s toughest proving grounds for summer testing saw Protoura Race excel.

The tyre was put through a series of wet and dry handling and braking tests against its peers to ensure the tyres performed at the top of their class.

The tyre was tested using a Golf GTI TCR race car, as well as a series of road cars including the latest Golf GTI, to determine on-road performance. It achieved ‘A’ grade status for braking capabilities and excellent grip in the wet and the dry, proving its control.

Calafat Circuit

At the Calafat Circuit, Protoura Race was specifically tested for durability, focussing on abrasion and heat resistance using the full race version Golf GTI TCR. The tyre was heated and cooled repeatedly over multiple sessions to assess its consistency, how suitable it is for racing and its ability to transition from the track to the road. The result proved excellent, with the integrity and feedback necessary to make drivers feel confident.

Silverstone

Pitting the Protoura Race against its competitors, we tested the tyre at Silverstone using professional TSL timing and qualification standings, pushing it to the edge. Once again, Race proved its handling capabilities on the challenging high speed corners and its adaptability to transition from a damp circuit to a dry line.

Ray Collier, Managing Director and Chief Engineer of TREAD, the independent testing organisation that tested Protoura Race, said: “The result of this stringent testing is a tyre that is best in class for consistency, reliability and speed. It has been tuned for progressive handling to give drivers ultimate control, and the ability to withstand changes in temperatures while performing consistently without substantial wearing, allowing the tyre to be driven on from the track to the road repeatedly.”

Davanti Motorsport

After years of development under the most demanding conditions at Europe’s premier proving grounds and race circuits, Davanti’s Protoura Race is ready to make its mark. Benchmarked against competitors, Protoura Race consistently delivers exceptional performance and the control expected from a premium race tyre. Starting in 2025, Protoura Race will be Leading The Way on England’s most iconic racetracks as the official tyre sponsor for two exciting motorsport championships.

  • As part of a three-year contract, Davanti is proud to be the Technical Partner and Commercial Sponsor for the Mini Challenge Clubsport. As the new control tyre of the Championship, Protoura Race will power the next generation of motorsport talent.
  • Davanti has also partnered with the Suzuki Swift Sport Challenge, a new entry-level formula launching in 2025 by the 750 Motor Club. Protoura Race will be the control tyre for this innovative series, designed to make competitive racing more accessible.
  • 2025 will also see the launch of the Davanti Tyres Race Team, who is set to compete in the inaugural 2025 Swift Sport Challenge. The racing duo of Professional racer Adam Blair and Ray Collier, chief engineer at TREAD LTD, who was instrumental in the development of the Protoura Race tyre, are ready to put Protoura Race to the test in this competition.

Davanti Tyres’ CEO Peter Cross, comments:

“It’s an exciting time for Davanti Tyres as we launch our first ever track tyre, Protoura Race. Now we have a semi-slick track tyre, our performance range offers more options for our specialist retailers and motorists.

“The testing we’ve undertaken with Protoura Race cannot be understated and is something we are incredibly proud of. From the IDIADA facilities in Spain to iconic motor racing circuits such as Silverstone and Spain’s Calafat Circuit, the Protoura Race has proved its capabilities in tricky conditions and challenging apexes. It’s thanks to our rigorous development process we can offer a tyre that is genuinely engineered to win.”

The tyre is available in sizes 13” to 18”.
