Help prepare your customers for safe travel this Christmas

3rd December 2021

Christmas is nearly here, which means thousands of families will be arranging road trips to visit loved ones over the festive period.

With the prospect of hundreds of miles of driving, potentially in wintry weather conditions, remind your customers to carry out key vehicle safety checks before making their journeys.

Check tyre tread

It’s important to check tyre tread to ensure it’s above the legal limit of 1.6mm. Good tread helps with grip, braking and steering, which is especially important in wintry conditions and could save lives, as well as money. If you are found to have illegal tyres, the penalty is £2,500 and 3 points on your licence per tyre.

Check tyre pressure

Tyre pressure should be adjusted according to the load being carried, so if the car is full of kids, luggage and presents, it’s important to increase the pressure accordingly. Failure to do so could put your tyres under unnecessary strain, cost more in fuel and increase braking distance by around 25%.

It’s also important to consider changing from summer to winter tyres, particularly if travelling a lot over the winter season. Winter tyres are effective in temperatures below 7 degrees, and could save you money on fuel as well as providing better contact with the road in icy, snowy and wet conditions.

Here are some of our winter tyres suitable for passenger cars:

Wintoura

A directional high performance winter pattern that provides safety, comfort and fuel efficiency. It’s angled tread blocks help reduce noise, while the two wide circumferential grooves together with lateral channels and zig-zag sipes disperse water and increase grip. Available in 40 sizes from 14”-17”.

Wintoura +

A UHP asymmetric pattern optimised for safety, comfort and performance.

Three-dimensional sipes and lateral grooves deliver increased traction and excellent braking performance, and the carcass construction allows for precise handling as well as a comfortable ride. Available in 50 sizes from 16”-21”.

Wintoura SUV

A specially-designed directional tread that gives reliable traction and snow performance. Two main jagged grooves help to clear water away, and the interconnected v-groove centre rib gives assured steering response and high traction. Available in 21 sizes from 16”- 22”.
